There are many innovative technologies that artists can incorporate, including Blockchain Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Digital Art and Robotics.
Presented in partnership with DigiArt, this webinar offers an introduction to innovative art-tech tools such as blockchain, VR, AI and augmented reality to discuss how these tools can help artists. Following the presentation there will be an opportunity to engage in a community consultation about the utility of these tools in an artist’s practice.

About the Facilitator:
Vandana Taxali (B.A.Sc., J.D., LL.B) is a legal professional and business lawyer (media, technology, software and entertainment) with over a decade of experience in intellectual property (copyright, trademark), licensing, contracts and entertainment law practising at Entcounsel. She is an art arbitrator with the International Court of Art at The Hague. Vandana is the founder of Artcryption, a platform that protects intellectual property on the blockchain, namely art and creative assets, and is involved with DigiArt, an initiative looking at the innovative art-tech needs for the arts community.
Vandana is licensed in the Province of Ontario. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Law University of Windsor and University of Detroit Mercy Law School, and has a B.A.Sc. from McMaster University. Vandana has mentored various start-ups including OCAD University's incubator, George Brown’s digiFest and The Community Innovation Lab in Oshawa. She teaches intellectual property law at OCAD University’s Continuing Studies program, and sits on the Board of Canadian Stage, Art Gallery of Mississauga (former), Mural Routes and has served on the committees for The Power Plant, ONEXONE, Toronto Art Fair and Canadian Art.
Lindsey Friedman, Esq. is a graduate of Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. She received her Master of Arts Degree from the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, and is a graduate of Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, New York. She was admitted to the bar in New York in 2015. Lindsey is currently completing her articling requirement at Entcounsel Law Firm to be called to the Ontario bar in June 2021. Previously, Lindsey was a member of the Estate and Appraisal Services group at an auction house in New York City. Lindsey is interested in learning how technology will affect the future of the art market.
Divya Patel graduated with a civil law degree from the University of Ottawa and obtained her Juris Doctor at the University of Sherbrooke. Throughout law school, she worked at a boutique corporate law firm, where she obtained hands-on experience advising start-ups and small business enterprises. Divya is currently completing her articling requirement at Entcounsel Law Firm in order to be called to the Ontario bar in June 2021. Divya hopes to continue learning about emerging technologies and how they will impact our day to day lives.
Kelly McCray has exhibited and curated extensively over the past 30 years. His steam portraits were exhibited at the Gladstone Hotel for the 10 x 10 Portrait Project and in 2015, the Stephen Bulger Gallery hosted his photo-based Lens Krafter book project. His 2003 Ken Portraits series, was exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA) and in 2001, the Gnawts Project was exhibited in the Breath Taking show at Gallery TPW, for which he received the US - based Pollock-Krasner award. Recent curatorial projects include the 2013 Rare & Raw show for the Leslie & Lohman Museum in New York as well as numerous Edward Day Gallery exhibitions. In 2016 He directed/curated the First Canadian Place Gallery and public lobby spaces from 2014 to 2019 and was co-founder of the Artists Protest Projects for the 2019 Nuit Blanche projection walls. He is currently completing his MFA at York University.
